Ms. Finn's fifth period American Government class participated in a Socratic seminar today about school rules, laws, and how rules present organization.
They were very professional and respectful to one another, even when they had a disagreement of opinion. The students came up with questions like: "When someone starts an argument in class should they have to do an extra assignment?" "Why do we have rules?" "Do rules create more order?" "Should policies change from year to year, or should they be the same?" Students had wonderful and thoughtful responses to all of these self-generated questions and I am really proud of all of them! What wonderful adults they are all going to be! -Ms. Finn

"We are sailing smoothly along now! In Math this week we have been working on GCF (Greatest Common Factor), and LCM (Least Common Multiple), students are beginning to be able to clip through the problems with ease! In Literacy, we wrote a poem about a family member, began work on a Key Project, and did grammar and informational reading assignments through the online literacy tools NoRedInk and NewsELA. Students read news articles about space travel, and learned about active and passive voice. In American Government we refreshed our memories about the causes of the American Revolution, and watched part of "America, The Story of Us", a documentary series, while we practiced taking notes. In Science class, we made topographic maps and mountains, and began learning about why we study maps and how topographic maps help Geologists.

This week in Ms. Finn's class we got to know each other by playing "Get to Know You Bingo", We filled out a student interest inventory and learned about our preferred learning modality. We also set up "Classcraft", a learning tool for a gamified classroom, whereby students gain "XP" or experience for helping friends, answering questions correctly in class, being resilient, and working hard! Students who gain "XP" as a team have specific powers that they can use to help themselves and the rest of their teammates in class. Go to classcraft.com to learn more!
