In Math Class this week, kids are finishing up their Units on Fractions. Some students have already taken the test. Others will take it on Monday or Tuesday. The kids are ready for this test and have been prepping for it in class for weeks, using the playlist learning module. They are having fun while learning. Next Up: Decimals!
In Literacy, we have read "What It Means to Say Phoenix Arizona" and have been working on Adjectives and adverbs, as well as our ongoing informational reading and Key Project Initiative. Some kids are writing novels, some are creating worlds with villains and superheroes, some are writing short horror fiction, and some are writing informational research projects. In American Government, we are learning about branches of Government and Freedom of the Press and the Right to Publish. We have been watching the film "The Post" and students have been asked to analyze the op ed from the New York Times, and to develop an opinion and to respond to the New York Times, about their choice to publish. In Science class, we built the lunar rover, made models of the Earth and Moon, found the mass, volume, and relative gravity of the moon, and gave lunar presentations. We are wrapping up our lunar Unit on Wednesday with a test, kids will be given a study guide on Monday. Next week we will begin our unit on Earth Chemistry, Elements Required for Life and the Beginnings of Life on Earth. We will end our week (provided all necessary materials arrive), by creating our own biosphere. My 5th period American Government Class has brought home their study guide for Thursday's quiz! Please help them find time to go over it, and if you can please go over it with them. Some of the kiddos are nervous about the quiz, but they have everything they need to succeed and they are going to do amazingly!
